Laos is maybe not as popular as Thailand, Cambodia, or Vietnam, however, its breathtaking landscapes and bucket-list experiences make it a great destination for everyone who wants a unique experience.

The best hotels in Laos
The best hotels in Vientiane
Located on the banks of the Mekong River, the capital city of Laos, Vientiane, is more comparable to a large village than a bustling metropolis such as Bangkok or Kuala Lumpur. Even though, the city has many bustling markets, delicious restaurants, and beautiful temples to explore.
Because Laos was a French colony for a long time, you will find beautiful buildings with many French influences. However, this may make it even more attractive to spend a day or two in this unique city.
Where to stay in Vang Vieng
Vang Vieng, once known as a party destination, is a popular backpacker destination in Laos. It’s a great destination for those who want to get out into nature or learn about the local culture, as it is surrounded by caves, beautiful limestone mountains, and vast rice fields.
Although I only spent a short time in the village, you could easily stay for a week and explore the surrounding area, go on river excursions, hike to stunning viewpoints, or eat traditional Laotian cuisine.
Where to stay in Luang Prabang Laos
Luang Prabang is the most beautiful spot in all of Laos, without a doubt! The area is known for its great mix of untamed nature, ancient temples, and colorful atmosphere.
Because there is so much to do and see here, as well as a wide variety of places to stay in Luang Prabang, it is easy to stay in this area for a longer period of time.
Take your time in this beautiful place in Laos to either explore the city or make plans for the rest of your trip, at least, that’s what I did while I was there.
The best hotels in Pakbeng
Although it’s not exactly a popular tourist destination in Laos, I spent the night in this village as part of the 2-day Luang Say Mekong Cruise from Laos to Thailand.
On the way to Pakbeng, you can stop to explore some caves and local villages where traditional crafts are made, or you can take in the breathtaking sunsets along the banks of the Mekong River.
A 2-day Mekong River Cruise
Your Laos itinerary is even more special if you embark on a Mekong river cruise from Luang Prabang to the northern part of Thailand.
During this bucket-list experience, you will be able to admire the most beautiful landscapes, as well as ancient temples, caves, and traditional rural villages.
There are many different boats and cruises traveling along the river in both directions, however, The Luang Say Cruise is one of the most luxurious Mekong River Cruises and is more than just a cruise.

The camera gear I used for this trip
I never go out without my camera and many people ask me which gear I use. So to make it quite easy, I listed all the gear I used for this trip below.
Most of the time, I travel with the Sony A7III and the Sony 24-105mm/f4 as my primary lens but depending on the location, I change to another setup. However, I love the Tamron 17-28 to shoot in the big cities.
