If you are looking for accommodation or don’t know where to stay in Fez then read on as I will share 5 reasons why you should consider staying at the best Riad in Fez, Riad Anata.
Staying in Riad Anata was a magical experience as this magnificent boutique guesthouse features uniquely designed rooms each with a different theme color. The authentic feel of a charming boutique hotel, the terracotta floors, etched wooden decorations in the bedroom, and windows facing the courtyard were the main reasons for falling in love with the beautiful place.
It is located in the heart of Fez, owned and designed by Valérie Janczewski, who created the perfect home for every traveler. With a patio to relax, a rooftop terrace with stunning views, and optional cooking classes you will enjoy your stay at Riad Anata.

The best time to visit Morocco
Any season of the year is a good time to travel to Morocco, with snowy mountain peaks in the Atlas Mountains throughout Autumn and Spring, and dry and extremely hot summers in July and August.
Morocco is a beautiful country to visit throughout the entire year.
Spring and Autumn are the busiest months but also the best time to visit Morocco. Summer can be very hot, although this is the time of year when the fewest people are visiting Morocco.
How to get to Riad Anata?
The best way to get to Riad Anata when you arrive at Fes Saiss Airport (FEZ) is by taking a taxi outside the airport to Place Batha, and from there, you can easily walk to the Riad by following the signs on the walls of the narrow alleys.
If you made a booking directly with Riad Anata, you can contact them as the amazing staff will be happy to arrange transport from the airport to the Riad.
If you have your own transport, I recommend parking at Parking Oum El Banin, which is secured parking near Riad Anata.

5 reasons to stay at Riad Anata?
The color-themed rooms
Riad Anata features 5 lovely rooms, each decorated in a different themed color and located on 4 floors throughout the Riad. Each room has a comfortable double bed with a unique design, a private Moroccan-style bathroom with a bath or shower, and amenities such as black soap, bathrobes, and traditional tiles.
My partner and I stayed at the Red Room, which has a romantic atmosphere and a great view of the indoor courtyard. Besides our room, Riad Anata also has 4 other beautiful rooms.
- Blue room – on the top floor with views of the outdoor kitchen and glass ceiling
- Green room – features a bath and amazing views of the indoor courtyard
- Orange room – the smallest room with cosy vibes
- White room – On the ground floor with direct access to the courtyard and a bright interior
The Location
The Riad is situated on the edge of the Medina and is just a short walk from Place Batha, where you can find the red taxis and the oldest museum in the city. This area is also more serene and peaceful, yet it’s still close to the main sights, restaurants, and shops in the busy Medina of Fez.
The amazing rooftop
After a day of exploring and wandering through the vibrant Medina, it is nice to relax and unwind on the rooftop with a drink while watching the sunset. You can relax on the lounge beds, take a refreshing dip with your toes in the small pool or enjoy a delicious dinner prepared by their own chef.
Breakfast with a view
The delicious breakfast is another reason to stay here. Every morning, we were treated to fresh homemade jams, olives, yogurt, warm bread, fresh orange juice, and coffee.
While Said was preparing breakfast and coffee, we could enjoy the views while the sun was rising behind the mountains in the distance.
The team of Riad Anata
The friendly and personal contact with the team of Riad Anata makes you feel very welcome. I got in touch with Valérie through social media, and even though she was out of the country during my stay, she made time to stay in touch to make sure that everything was perfectly organized.
The team of Riad Anata went above and beyond to make our stay incredible. We received freshly made Moroccan tea on arrival while Samira assisted us to our room.
Every morning, Said prepared the most delicious breakfast on the rooftop and the other staff did everything to make our stay more comfortable.
Riad Anata is a truly hidden gem in the chaos of the Medina. From the moment you enter through the massive wooden door of the Riad, you will come into an oasis of calmness and happiness.
I had the privilege to stay 2 nights in Riad Anata and experience the best of Fez, however, I would recommend one more night to explore all the highlights of the city and join optional excursions at a slower pace.

The camera gear I used for this trip
I never go out without my camera and many people ask me which gear I use. So to make it quite easy, I listed all the gear I used for this trip below.
Most of the time, I travel with the Sony A7III and the Sony 24-105mm/f4 as my primary lens but depending on the location, I change to another setup. However, I love the Tamron 17-28 to shoot in the big cities.
